Khata Simple is a GST-ready accounting app for Indian shops, traders and small businesses. Record parties, raise invoices, track stock and see what you owe — on your phone, in the same shape as the book you keep now.

What it does

Everything a small business actually posts, and nothing it doesn't.

Parties Customers and suppliers in one list. Pull a name straight from your phone contacts, add GSTIN and PAN, and every invoice and payment files itself under that party automatically.
Invoices GST-ready billing. Tax-wise breakup, HSN codes, and totals that match what your accountant expects to see. Share as PDF over WhatsApp or print it.
Scanning Purchase bills, read by camera. Point the camera at a supplier invoice and the line items come through as a draft entry for you to check and post.
Stock Items with rates and balances. Know what moved, what's left, and what a line is worth at the moment you're billing it.
Outstanding Who owes you, at a glance. Party-wise balances that update as payments land, so the follow-up list writes itself.
Offline Works without a signal. The books live on your device. Sync catches up when the network comes back, not the other way round.

Security

Your books are encrypted before they ever leave the phone.

Khata Simple holds trade data — what you sell, to whom, at what rate. That is commercially sensitive, so the app is built so that nobody but you can read it, including us.

The database on your device is encrypted with SQLCipher, and its key is held in the Android Keystore. Anything synced to the cloud is encrypted on the device first — what gets uploaded is ciphertext we cannot decrypt.

When the app connects to Google Drive it asks only for the drive.file permission, which lets it see files it created itself and nothing else in your Drive. That is a deliberate limit, not an oversight.

Where your data lives

Three choices, and you pick.

Backup and multi-device sync are optional. The app is fully usable without either.

Tier 01

On this device only

No account, no cloud, no sync. The books stay on the phone and are backed up by hand from Settings.

Tier 02

Your own Google Drive

Encrypted backups go to a folder in your Drive. Your storage, your control, readable by nobody without your key.

Tier 03

Khata Simple cloud

Encrypted backups on storage we run, for people who would rather not manage a Drive account. Still ciphertext to us.

Khata Simple is a product of Acconix Consultancy Services, a practice run by Chartered Accountants and Company Secretaries in Maharashtra. The app exists because the same problem kept arriving at the desk: shop owners keeping honest books in a notebook, then losing a day a month turning them into something GST-shaped.
